The new webmail includes tools for managing your away messages. These instructions cover logging into webmail and using the webmail interface to manage your away messages. You are not required to use webmail as your primary method of accessing email to make use of webmail's away message tool. While the tool is part of the webmail inteface, it manages away-msgs for anyone with a departmental (csbs) account, regardless of how you access your email.
First, point your web browser (ie. netscape, safari, internet explorer, etc..) to http://webmail.csbs.utah.edu
Log in using your departmental email account's username and password.
If it is your first time logging in to webmail, you may be presented with a "Maintenance" screen. Click the button labeled "Skip Maintenance".
Once logged in, click "Vacation" located on the left side menu under "My Account" as in this example:
Verify that "Set/install vacation notice" is selected. If not click on the round dot next to the word "Set". Note that if you want to disable your away message (ie. you are back from vacation) you should click the round dot next to the word "Unset"
In the box titled "Subject:", enter text that will become the subject of the auto-reply email.
In the box titled "Message:" remove the default text and replace it with your customized message. If the default message is sufficient for your auto-replies, leave the Message box unchanged.
At this point your away message should now respond to anyone who emails you. Away messages will only respond to the first message it receives from any one sender. If that same sender sends you additional emails, it is assumed that the sender knows you are not available and is choosing to email you anyway.
