These instructions cover configuring Outlook Express 6 for access to departmental email.
Launch Outlook Express. On a Windows based PC, you can do this by selecting "Outlook Express" located under "Programs" in your windows "Start" menu.
If this is the first time you are using Outlook Express the "New Account Wizard" may launch
automatically. If it does click cancel to close it. Select "Accounts" from the "Tools" menu.
Click the "Mail" tab, click "Add", and select "Mail..."
In the "Display name" box type your name and click "Next"
Enter your email address in the "E-mail address" box (ie. alfred.bivens@csbs.utah.edu), then click next.
For the incoming mail server type select IMAP from the dropdown menu.
In the "incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server" box type imap.csbs.utah.edu
In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box type smtp.csbs.utah.edu. Click next.
You will then be prompted for your Account name. Enter your username (ie. ab1234). CSBS Computing recommends that you do not save your password (Uncheck the Remember password box).
Click Next, then click Finish.
Next with the mail server highlighted click properties.
Click on the advanced tab and check the box under Incoming mail (IMAP) to enable SSL.
Then click the IMAP tab and type "mail" in the Root folder path box.
Uncheck the box labeled "Check for new messages in all folders"
Then click OK, then Close
You are then prompted whether or not to download folders, select Yes.
Enter your password when prompted, then click OK
You will recieve a message regarding the security certifcate. Click OK.
You will see a list of the folders located on your network drive. Select the mail folders you wish to be able to see by highlighting them and then clicking "Show on the right hand side of the screen. Once you have selected all the folders you want to be able to see click OK.
From the "Folders" list, click on the Inbox icon below imap.csbs.utah.edu. Click the Send/Recv Icon at the top of the screen to send or recieve any new mail. You should at this point be able to see the contents of your inbox. If your Inbox does not display, or you need further assistance, please submit a request via the helpdesk.
