CSBS Webmail contains many features that you are encouraged to explore. Many of the features like "vacation" and "forwards" can be used by users who don't want to use webmail as their primary method of accessing their department email. These instructions only cover logging in to webmail, viewing email, and sending email.
Logging in:
Point your web browser (ie. netscape, safari, internet explorer, etc..) to http://webmail.csbs.utah.edu
Log in using your department email account's username and password.
If it is your first time logging in to webmail, you will be presented with a "Maintenance" screen. You may choose to use the maintenance feature to keep your mail organized. What maintenance is performed is customizable, but not covered in these instructions. Click "Skip Maintenance".
Viewing:
You should now have a list of email sorted by date, in ascending order, with 50 messages per screen.
If you have more than 50 messages and would like to see your newest email, click the arrow that points to the right that is touching a short vertical line.
To check for new mail, click the refresh button, the button with two arrows arranged in a circle.
To view the contents of an email, click on either the Subject of the email, or on the sender's address.
Viewing/Saving Attachments:
Attachments will be listed in a header section of an email titled "Part(s):" as in this example:
To open: If the name of the attachment is clickable, or blue, then you can click directly on the name of the attachment to open it. If the name is not clickable, then you must save the attachment before you can open it.
To save: There are three ways to save an attachment
Click the dowload icon . This is the most common and preffered way to save the attachment.
Click the zip download icon . This will provide a zip file that contains your attachment, which you will need to unzip before you can view your attachment.
Click the link titled "Download All Attachments (in .zip file)". This is like option 2, however it can be useful if you have multiple attachments and want to download them all in one zip file.
Writing:
To send email, click the button labeled "Compose"
Fill in the fields labeled "To" and "Subject".
Type your message in the large text box.
Click "Send Message". It doesn't matter which of the "Send Message" buttons you push, both do the same.
There are many advanced features in CSBS webmail. You are encouraged to explore them all. Some notable features are DSPAM (a server side spam filter), Address Book (which includes the university directory), and Vacation (for vacation auto-replies). For assistance with any of webmail's features, click "Help" within webmail, or contact the helpdesk.
